What an exciting week we’ve had; getting four nominations at IGF was amazing enough but we also just had our very first (and very positive) review published in Edge Magazine today, with a score of 8/10! Finally, to top it all off, we now have an official Steam Store Page! To celebrate we wanted to do something special…
…And here it is – our first Official Trailer:
(Youtube Link for those having trouble viewing the video)
Not long to go now until February 14th – So go head over to our Steam Page and be sure to put Dear Esther on your Wish List!

Beautiful.
Holy shit… when the mod came out, it was absolutely beautiful. This is just godly.
Absolutely stunning work and an inspiring benchmark for all Source Engine developers including Valve themselves.
I still cite you as a big inspiration on my projects and working around the artistic limitations the engine imposes. Though it is ageing tech, it’s the engine that got me into the industry and you have proved what many have known but rarely see – the real beauty can be derived from Source when in the right hands.
Props to making a small masterpiece and I look forward to playing in a couple of weeks!
Excellent work.
Great! Looking forward to this. Takes gaming back to creativity … and its, so beautiful.
Any chance you’ll make it pre-order?
Would’ve loved to but Steam’s pre-orders are usually reserved for AAA titles only, and we’re, well… not!
If you ask me you’re far beyond AAA – But OK, I get it.
Wow, watched the trailer at least five times now and I have to say I am completely taken away by it. I’m just wondering now if it would be possible to upload a higher quality version to Vimeo, since even the YouTube 720p version is a bit overly compressed? Thanks and congratulations on the game and trailer.
The video in this news post is a non-youtube high quality HD version of the trailer – check it out!
Are you going to relese a special edition?
Were toying with the idea at the moment. Maybe a physical boxed edition with the official soundtrack, concept art, etc. Again, we’re just floating ideas around at this point, and it of course relies on how well our initial Steam Sales go. So maybe!
YES! Please! I’d buy it yesterday! (meaning, ASAP
Any chance you could add piano music sheets for the music if you do it -or does Jessica Curry not want that?
It would be good seeing some more written material based around The Esther universe as well and obviously an art book.
Hello there,
Jessica the composer here. Thanks for your interest in the piano sheet music. I’ve had quite a few requests for this and I am happy to send the sheet music out to interested people. Please email me- address on my website- and state which tracks you’re interested in.
thank you that would be amazing
Will there be a demo for this game along with the release? (On Steam of course
)
We’re kind of pointing people toward the original if they want to get a feel of what the game is all about. You can check out the original mod here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/dear-esther/downloads
I love what I see, I love what I hear… and to tell it in my native language : J’aime votre jeu ! I hope sales’ll be high as …
The atmosphere and the music are awesome. Any chance to have an italian translation?
There will be a community-driven translation pack released shortly after launch which should provide translated subtitles for quite a few different languages from the get-go (including Italian).
We also plan on having a community translation pack also available at launch so that extra languages can be added to the pack by the community at a later date.
I would love a boxed version to become available in stores… for such brilliant adventure game, a download always seems so… virtual.
In that translation pack it would be spanish.
Yep, there will be a Spanish translation!
WOW!!! It looks absolutely stunning, and the music fits the atmosphere perfectly, Great work
I would like to know if you’re gonna be releasing any tutorials?
Don’t think I’ve been this excited about any sort of entertainment media since The Lord of the Rings was in theaters.
“First Trailer” – does that mean there will be a second one?
I have just bought and installed your astounding piece of art from Steam. I must admit that having completed just a first chapter of the story I’m profoundly moved by your creation. The jaw-dropping vistas combined with uncanny ethereal atmosphere conjure up such a believable, tangible world that even after shutting downn my PC I felt as though I were still in the world you have created. I’m an avid gamer and at the same time an English literature university graduate who happens to teach English to secondary school students. I’ve been always exasperated with the attitude treating gamesas inferior, mindless pulp for bored teenagers. I’m so glad that your piece of work proves to the contrary. ‘Dear Esther’ is a rare case of creation where electronic entertaimnet and genuine art intertwine to elevate gaming to a higher edyfing level.. and for that I’m very grateful to all the people who were involved in this project. Greetings from Poland and keep up good work. I wish you sales exceeding commercial success of MW3! I wiil keep telling al of my friends about this exciting project.
Is there any possibility that DEAR ESTHER will come out with a KOREAN subtitle?
but I still want to know!)
I’m korean and really want to play this game (Always ready to buy this game on steam!)
However I realized that DEAR ESTHER doesn’t support korean subtitle…..
It’s kinda okey for me.
But it’s a little uncomfortable… (since it is a storybased game)
So I ask you guys.
Are you planning to add subtitles with other languages?
(I’m going to buy the game anyway
So, I arranged some Dear Esther sheet music! Hope fellow pianists out there find it useful!
