We’re really happy to announce that the official game soundtrack by Jessica Curry will be available from all the usual places (iTunes, 7Digital, etc) shortly after the game launches. We’ll update as soon as it’s officially out – in the meantime, you can listen to excerpts here!

How I understand Steam not include in “all the usual places”? If yes, this is sad.
For the moment, it’ll be available through normal music download services – iTunes, 7Digital, etc. So it will be very easy to get hold off. We might put it on Steam later on, just not initially. This is partially because we don’t have a processing date for the other services and it could be problematic for us if the release is staggered. So this way, it should be more synchronised and that makes our lives quite a bit easier. Cheers, dan
Thanks for explanation, Dan. Will wait for Steam release later then.
Will there be a FLAC release? iTunes doesn’t provide any lossless formats, and as far as I can see 7Digital only offers ‘high-quality’ MP3 downloads.
Much appreciated,
Creddd
Hi there,
Jessica the composer here. Thanks for your question Creddd. If there’s enough demand for a FLAC release then I’ll put it on Bandcamp. How does that sound?
J
That’s fantastic!
Thanks for the reply, the soundtrack is incredible
I will buy a FLAC release of the soundtrack from Bandcamp (I’ve already bought half a dozen FLAC video game OSTs from them).
Thanks for your feedback on this- very appreciated and will definitely consider it. Want to keep it as simple as possible for now- see Dan’s earlier reply about staggered releases etc, but it’s good to know your thoughts
Hiya,
Let me just say, I think it’s really cool what you guys are doing here with video games. I wasn’t sure what to make of Dear Esther until I watched that trailer, the atmosphere of the island, along with that lovecraftian dark feel sent chills down my neck, and when that violin piece started up…well let’s just say that I’m trying very hard to restrain from downloading the older mod version of this. I can’t wait till Valentines day!
Sounds lovely. I really hope you do end up having flac on bandcamp.
This is spectacular! But I must say, track six is horrifying. Truly one of the darkest pieces I’ve heard in quite a while. Something about that struck a chord with me.
Hi, are you able to expand on the ‘etc’? As I live in Australia and 7digital is not yet available here. I also flat out refuse to purchase anything from iTunes. I too would prefer if you released it with Steam. Thanks
Hi there Lewk,
It will also be on Amazon- hope that helps. We are considering a Steam release later on…
Jessica
Indeed it will – and IS in fact! For those fans interested, Amazon.co.uk already now have the digital soundtrack for Dear Esther available HERE: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007076UAK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=game-music-soundtracks-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B007076UAK
Great stuff! -John.
Fantastic, the soundtrack seems very promising. But personally i like to not expose myself to the music before playing the game, so that i can emotionally connect to it first in the athmosphere and setting it was meant for. I will surely buy it afterwards, though.
One question, Dear Esther is the title theme, right? I thought it was “I have begun my Ascent” as it was used in most trailers.
Can’t wait for the game (and music)!
This is fantastic news
Well done folks! Here’s hoping you have the success to back it up, by rights you should have
I’ve tweeted, have you?
I guess I’m dreaming, but any chance for a retail release ? I’d love a vinyl edition. Anyway great work thank you so much.
Also I’d love a FLAC release
Just noticed the minimum and recommended system requirements and it doesn’t say anything about Windows 7. Is this just an innocent ommision and if so will it run on 64bit? Can you also tell me the approx game time it might take to finish this game? I’m just curious as its’ such a great price and am slightly concerned that it might only be a few hours long. If it runs on Win 7 and lasts more than a few hours I will definately be buying it. Many thanks
For future reference, anything that ran on Vista, runs in seven.
That said, this is a Source engine game. Probably anything built within the last 7 years could run it.
might buy the soundtrack if it stays with me while playing the game:)
Approx game time anyone? I’ve read a review of Dear Esther and it says it’s only an hour long. Please tell me this is a mistake. The reviewer did mention it twice though so I’m slightly worried now. Please tell me it’s longer than one hour.
Bought it!)
Just bought the game! I’d love to buy the soundtrack on FLAC through bandcamp if possible.
I think I am the first who completed this release. I must say: AMAZING! Probably one of the best releases out there on Steam. I took some screenshots @ max settings: http://steamcommunity.com/id/Rakoen/screenshots?tab=public&showdate=1&filter=app_203810
The soundtrack is amazing, but for a game that is $10 and only an hour long, I would have expected it to ship with the game. I went ahead and bought it on Amazon, though, because I think its probably one of the best parts of the game.
would highly recommend throwing up on bandcamp, as video game OSTs are huge sellers there right now. and do be sure to let me know here http://bandcamplike.tumblr.com/ when/if posted! this game looks amazing btw and am very happy to hear there are more similar games to come from you guys.
I would buy a FLAC version if it was released on bandcamp as well.
“usual places” is relative. I don’t have an iTunes account and don’t plan on getting one. And I haven’t even heard of 7Digital so far.
Almost all the albums I bought as digital download were directly through the artist’s website. Just one, I bought through bandcamp.
it is sort of cruel: the only download sites offering this gem of an album (at this time) are all credit card exclusive!
please say it ain’t so!
also: a ltd. super-exclusive version with illustrated booklet and real bits of esther inside would be just perfect? maybe packaged with a dvd of the game? just a thought, though.
edwardh and jaamessunderland – we’re looking at both bandcamp and putting it out on Steam in the very near future, just as soon as we’ve had chance. promise!
Cavern Ambient is my favourite part as visual and as musical
Jessica Curry, maybe you should try to compose New-Age and Tribal with neoclassical? I think it will be very nice! Thanks a lot for your music) perfect for game.
I look forward to purchasing the album from either Bandcamp or Steam!
I would definitely consider buying the flac format of the soundtrack!
Any news about the FLAC release ???
Fantastic OST !
I make scores myself as an hobby…damn i wish i could have made one for this awesome game..
Again a big thanks to you all for this awesome experience !
High five,
Ray
7digital and musiwave don’t seem to have the ost on offer. strange.
paypal-friendly 7digital now selling dear esther ost.
non-experts in the field report best music ever. experts otherwise occupied.
j. curry expected to be crowned shortly.
Hey Jessica!
Excellent music this album, i love mood music that has a “soul” to it.
Just thought id share my appreciation of your creation
